June 2020

Summary

Discussed summer camp and finances

June events

Scoutmaster Hal reported on the recent backpacking trip. Ten boys and six leaders hiked 14 miles round trip to the lakes. The boys split in two different groups. But the senior patrol leaders voted to join the groups together for the final night.

Scout summer camp out

July 13-18th is the troop’s week-long camp out. The funds are due by July 2nd. You can bring the money to the June 2nd meeting or get the money to our treasurer Alissa. Right now, we have 13 boys and 4 leaders committed to going.

Finances

Scout Chair Tod reported on the financial status of the troop. With the successful fundraising campaign ran by our Fundraiser Jared Knight, the troop has collected $1800. Tod proposed that if a boy contributes $100 for camp, the troop would match and contribute $100 to the camp. So, camp would cost $200 per boy instead of $300. If a boy wished to donate his match to the troop, he could. Also, if a boy needed additional financial support, he and his parents could contact the troop leaders for assistance.

There was discussion about this plan. Scoutmaster Kent brought up the point that the troop incurs additional expenses, such as awards and transportation costs. The consensus was to go ahead with the $100 match. Several boys were mentioned as not needing the match. If there is a boy who wants to go that would be unable to meet the cost, he was to contact the troop for arrangements.

Tod also mentioned that he has a lot of yard work and landscaping that boys could work on that would allow them to earn money. If interested, they should contact him.

In other financial news, the key three members of the committee determined that the physical address on the checks for the Troop 1776 be Scout Chair Tod’s home address.

Committee members’ notes

Mike Terry is our new advancement chair. Mike has had 20 years being involved with Scouting. Before the districts were combined, Mike was head of advancement for the Orem district. Welcome!

Other issues

There was a discussion about using GoToMeeting for committee meetings. Some committee members found that they had to sign up for a paid account in order to use GoToMeeting. Zoom and Google Meet were brought up as options. It was pointed out that free Zoom has a 40 minute cap. We concluded that we’ll still use GoToMeeting, but committee members shouldn’t need to have a paid account. Directions on how to access for free will be sent out.

A question was raised about storage, because the troop is acquiring equipment. Tod reported that the storage should be available in a month.
