This is a rough draft of the notes taken at Troop 1776’s committee meeting on April 21, 2022. They will be read in and approved at next month’s committee meeting.
Previous meeting’s notes
Eight committee members were in attendance, as well as two of the three key members. We read in the notes from last month’s meeting and approved them.
Finances
The troop’s finances were presented. Both Sarah Cutler and Tod Hadley received a refund from the council because there was an overpayment on registration. The overage will be returned to the troop.
We spoke about the need for parents to pay for Camp Loll fees.
The committee also agreed that next fall, we need to collect registration fees from parents before chartering.
Fundraising
We discussed the fundraising dinner that’s going to be held on June 4th. Each Scout is expected to sell 10 tickets. This fundraiser should be all profit, since we have the food donated. At the dinner, we’ll have some tables manned by Scouts demonstrating skills – first aid and orienteering.
Recruiting
It was mentioned that Timpanogos District has lost many troops who chose not to recharter. We discussed the need to recruit and bolster the troop.
One recruiting opportunity is the Orem Summerfest parade on June 11th. We could combine forces with the Alpine troop and hand out flyers along the route. Non-profit entry is $50.
Girls’ Report
The girls’ troop is excited to have Lydia Butler move up and join them. The troop has taken advantage of the nice weather and have started meeting outside.
We discussed the need to support the girls in the girls’ troop. We need to empower the girls to be leaders. They need to have senior patrol meetings and lead the combined meetings.
Scoutmaster Tareq said that he needed to recruit some Assistant Scoutmasters for the girls’ troop.
Boys’ Report
The boys are planning a campout at the lava tubes in May. They are thinking about going to Hill Air Force Base in June. However, the boys’ troop should have an activity where there is a long hike, and June is a perfect time to have that as an activity.
Scoutbook
It was discovered that we didn’t fill out proper registration at rechartering, stating that the troop committee was over both the girls’ and the boys’ troop. This is being rectified, so that the proper people can have access to Scoutbook.
It was noted that we need to give Jeffery Cutler access to Scoutbook.
Final Thoughts
Scoutmaster Tareq asked the parents to leave a good Google review for Avolta. He emphasized that this review was not for the services that Avolta sells, (because we don’t purchase those services), but to review them based on the donation of the space and the support that they give to our troop.
The next committee meeting is May 19.
