Summary: Committee discussed calendar for the year, upcoming events in March and April, summer camp, communication issues, finances, charter organization, and Troop 1776’s response to COVID-19
March and April discussion
Committee discussed event in March and April. March will be a conservation project at Memorial Park in Provo.
Due to concerns about Covid-19, troop meetings and campout is canceled. April is Maple Dell campout. As it gets closer to April, we’ll evaluate how to best conduct troop activities in April.
Year plan
Scoutmaster Hal presented the troop’s plan for the year. You can find the calendar here.
We discussed summer camp at Tifie and came to the following conclusions:
- The troop will go with paying for camp without the Tifie cafeteria option ($210). This will save $130.
- Cost for the troop food is estimated at $60 for the week per boy and leader. This works out to be $3 per person per meal.
Communications
Heather led a discussion about the challenges of communicating to everyone in the troop. It was determined that to communicate with the parents, text alerts, as well as emails, will go out to parents. The boys will communicate via Google Hangouts – one group for the troop, and one for each of the patrols.
Chartering organization
In order to re-register as a troop with the hospital as the chartering organization now, we must register two additional boys and create a new troop. This would cost an additional $100. However, if we were to switch the chartering organization when we renew our registration at end of year, we can register without the additional fees. As a committee, we opted to wait until end of year to switch organizations.
Finances
We still don’t have a checking account for the troop. Until that’s set up, we’ll have to collect money either through Venmo or cash.
Since we are still using our existing organization, we’ll need the EIN from them. Alissa will need to report on her progress.
